Have you ever wondered what Kansas City looked like just 40 years ago? Though the 1970s aren't that long gone, it's still fun to reflect on what has changed since then. I know the first thing I notice is just how many patterns they used to put on everything! Here's a few vintage photos of our beautiful city (and it's people) from the 70s. Enjoy!

The Kauffmans were the founding owners of the Kansas City Royals.
3. A trip to the KC Zoo in 1971.

The secret lies in the patterns they're wearing. Bright colors and florals, everywhere you look!

8. The new "modern" seating at Union Station in 1974.
It was intended to contrast with the older, stone flooring. What do you think?
9. Amtrak travelers headed to New York City in 1974.
By this time, there were only about six trains per day served here, versus the 200 that used to be the norm in its heyday.

If you look closely, you can see that the main difference in this photo are the vehicles parked in the lot.

12. A picnic at the park in the 1970s.
I haven't heard of that root beer brand before, but that's probably because I was born after this photo was taken! Is that a glass bottle?
