Have you ever been asked or told something that just makes you want to walk away? It's amazing the things people will say to you sometimes, even when they think they're clever. These statements and questions easily make any Kansas Citian cringe, without a doubt.
1. Asking if we're all farmers or similar.
For some reason, people will literally ask you this as you're standing in a huge city right next to them. For some reason, people who visit think all of these apartments and nice neighborhoods is a show, and we all live on farms somewhere.
2. Assume that there's "not that many people here."
For some reason, people think that Kansas City can't be that big because of where we're located. Never mind that the metro area has around 2 million residents...
3. Ask how far away everything is from here.
It's a little annoying to be constantly asked "how far is St. Louis" or "how far is Branson." It seems to be a trend with new visitors, because others usually just ask Google.
4. Support another team on game day.
We're not as bad as some other fans out there, but you'll find us cringing or giving the evil eye to anyone from KC that roots for the other team. You're making us look bad!
5. Freak out when the weather changes suddenly.
It's usually a quick shower or a cold front, but there's not much that surprises us these days. We just think it's normal to bring a coat and umbrella everywhere.
6. Tell us you don't like out barbecue.
This one is almost unforgivable in Kansas City, especially if you prefer another type.
7. Insist that we're "backwards" in any way.
We really don't get this a lot, but it's sure a shock when we do.
8. Ask if we've ever gone cow tipping.
Not only are cows expensive, but they're also dangerous and would probably kick (and break) whatever was nearby after tipping. So, no, most of us have not gone cow tipping.
9. Tell us you're only here for Worlds of Fun.
If you're going to ignore the rest of this giant metro area, why even come in the first place? Worlds of Fun isn't that great after the first time, anyways.
10. The famous line from The Wizard of Oz.
It doesn't matter whether we're in Kansas anymore. Stop using this old quote, please.
11. Try telling us that farming isn't a "real job."
It's a very important job that involves much more than a plow every year. Don't belittle our farmers.
12. Claim that there's nothing special about our sunsets.
They're absolutely stunning, and you can't tell us otherwise.
13. Say there's nothing to do here.
I'm absolutely positive you've never actually looked around if you're bored in Kansas City. There's plenty to do here!
You know what won't make us cringe? Tacos from any of the best spots in town.
Are there any other annoying behaviors you spot in non-Kansas Citians? How do you pick out a tourist from the crowd? Share your thoughts in the comments!
