There is nothing as welcoming as an Iowa home. Wouldn't you agree? The homes of Iowa residents have an air of comfort, simplicity, and warmness to them. As soon as you step into the front door and take your shoes off, of course, you will quickly notice that many of us have the following 13 items, which are things you'll find in every Iowa home.
1. Tons and tons of these corn holders.
You probably have dozens of these little guys swimming around in your kitchen drawer. You don't even know how you got them, but you don't know how you would survive without them.
2. A college football t-shirt.
Whether you like sports or not, and whether you went to one of these schools or not, you probably own at least one Iowa or Iowa State t-shirt.
3. A medicine cabinet packed with bug spray, sunscreen, and everything else you could ever possibly need.
Because anything could happen, and you never know when you might need that third bottle of witch hazel. You're prepared for literally anything and everything.
4. An impressive collection of yard games.
Your garage has a special section dedicated to yard games like cornhole, horse shoes, disc golf, and ladder toss.
5. Pop. No soda to be found here.
In Iowa, pop is a noun first, and an adjective second.
6. Fuzzy socks.
You have a different pair of fuzzy socks for each day in the winter, and by each day I mean you literally have like 90 pairs of these. You get them pretty much every Christmas, and birthday if you were born in winter. I'm not complaining, though, because they're super comfy and warm.
7. An assortment of winter gear.
Sleds, snow boots, snow pants, gloves, and a fluffy marshmallow coat are things you will find in every Iowa home.
8. An arsenal of winter tools.
Don't forget your shovels, ice scrapers, and sidewalk salt. These items are pretty impossible to survive an Iowa winter without, so of course you will find them in every home.
9. One of these fleece blankets with the knotted ends.
For some reason, Iowans are crazy about these things. You either got one as a gift from someone, or you gave one to someone as a gift. All it is is two pieces of fleece knotted together, but the fact that you can get the coolest patterns of fleece (like kitty cats or tie dye) makes these blankets a hot item.
10. A t-shirt quilt, or quilt of some other kind.
If you don't have a fleece tie blanket, then you have a quilt of some kind. Iowans appreciate a good quilt, and we especially love our t-shirt quilts.
11. A Scentsy warmer and a collection of wax blocks for every season and occasion.
Pumpkin pie for Thanksgiving? Check. Apple pie for Christmas? Check. Candy Corn for Halloween? Check.
12. A scrapbook full of old photos and clippings from the local newspaper.
You can pretty much bet that photo of you at junior prom is in here, tucked preciously away behind a plastic page protector along with all of your other embarrassing memories.
13. A welcome mat.
No Iowa home is complete without a welcome mat. This is something you will see at almost every single home. If not, they must still be moving their stuff in.
Can you think of any other things you'll find in every Iowa home? If so, please share them with us in the comments below. Also, let us know if you have any of these 13 things in your own home.
