Patoka Lake is the second-largest reservior in all of Indiana. It's absolutely beautiful, too, with 26,000 acres (8,800 of which are water) to explore. Sunrise and sunset are a special treat.

These stunningly photogenic ruins of an old Gothic church are an urban explorer's dream, as they're open to the public and safe to explore. The church was built in 1926, but by 1975, it was abandoned.

Okay, so maybe this author is a bit biased in terms of really, really loving wind farms, but how could one not? They're beautiful and they seem to stretch all the way to infinity, and the camera loves that.
The entire campus of this world-famous university is a sight to behold and ever-so-fun to shoot! It was founded in 1842 and the architecture is positively stunning.

Spring Mill is definitely one of the most underappreciated places of beauty in Indiana. It spans 1,348 acres of beautiful landscape and even has an intriguing pioneer village on the grounds.
The Indiana Central Canal is another human-made beauty to add to your list. It was dug in the early 1800s to connect the Wabash and Erie canals to the Ohio River. Despite its old age, it's a modern marvel (and it looks beautiful when photographed at night).

Ah, yes, another under-appreciated and under-photographed state park that you may not have ever heard of. It's home to a couple of beautiful lakes, rolling emerald-green hills, and the sunsets here are to die for.

Last, but certainly not least, on your head-start photography list is the ever-so-majestic Michigan City Lighthouse. It was built in 1904 and became fully automated in 1960. The lighthouse seriously looks incredible no matter what time of year - there's something amazing happening there always.

Why We Love It: It's taken several trips for me to figure out my perfect "weekender bag that's TSA approved," but I've found my perfect carry on with the TOBIQ Colorado 30L. Welcome to Zionsville, population: just over 30,000.
By Indiana's standards, this technically makes it a small city, but anywhere else, it would still be called a small town. The photos are idyllic, but even they do it no justice. The best way to see Zionsville is to experience it yourself: walk up and down the streets. Explore the neighborhoods. It's an amazingly beautiful place, and you won't regret a moment of it.
It's a vibrant community with lots to adore. There's always something going on, and there's a real sense of comradery here. Everyone is everyone's neighbor—and it shows. There's an overall feel of community here, even if you're just visiting.
Perhaps best of all, though, is just how safe this little town is.
In 2023, there were just 3.8 incidents of crime of any kind for every 1,000 residents - an impressively low rate that makes it one of (if not THE) safest towns in Indiana. This, combined with so many amazing things to do, see, and experience, ensures that this town is one of the downright greatest hidden gems in Indiana.
It's filled top-to-bottom with unique shops, eateries, and attractions sure to charm you into wanting to stay forever. I don't know about you, but I'm the kind of person who greatly enjoys going out of my way just for a good meal - like, I'll happily drive to Zionsville from wherever I am just for lunch. And dessert! It's worth it.
Did you know, for example, that Zionsville is the pie capital of Indiana? Well, now you do - do with that delicious information what you may. If pie isn't your thing, perhaps the best ice cream in Indiana will be.
Zionsville is also home to more than 500 amazing acres of trails, parks, and other outdoor delights.
Once you've hiked and biked to your heart's content, hit the shops for more fun. There are plenty of mom-and-pop places here that you won't find anywhere else, all of which add to Zionsville's overall charm. Black Dog Books is a fan-favorite.
From the homes to the businesses to the folks, Zionsville is like something out of a dream.
