Have you ever wondered what the places and people in Indiana might have looked like 100 years ago? I have too. While it isn’t easy to find super old pictures of the Hoosier state, I did manage to dig up a few. I also learned we have a lot of really old buildings in the Hoosier state. Here are some old photos from around the state and a few pictures of some really old buildings for your viewing pleasure.
1. Here is a picture of a family in Crawfordsville, Indiana taken back in 1899. Woah!
2. Here is a bird’s eye view of Lebanon, Indiana from 1909.
3. Here is a picture of Morrison Hall at Indiana University in Bloomington from the 1940’s.
4. Here is what New Harmony, Indiana looked like in 1832.
5. Here is what the old Parke County Courthouse looked like in the 1830s. Unfortunately, it was torn down in the 1870s.
6. Here’s a very old look at the Indiana state house. This is the third state house taken in 1919.
7. I know, it's not as old as some of the other pictures. But here is a picture of a used car lot taken in the 1960s in Indianapolis. Look at the old cars!
8. Here is a picture of the Gangwer Hotel, formerly known as the Evert House in Medaryville, Indiana built in the 1850s.
Due to the fact that finding super old pictures of Indiana is not easy to do, I’ve also decided to include some old buildings that were built 100ish or more years ago.
1. This Blackstone-State Theater built in 1919 in South Bend, Indiana.
2. Here is a picture of the Oxford Hotel in West Baden Springs, Indiana. This building was constructed in 1909.
3. Here is a fairly old picture of the Congregational Church built in 1909 in West Terre Haute
4. This is the Murray Theater in Richmond, Indiana. It was also built in 1909.
Do you have any super old pictures you’d like featured in a piece? You can always send me photos at [email protected]. I love working with user submitted pieces! Please also let me know if you enjoyed looking at pictures of old buildings in the state and would like to see more of those! Hope everyone is recovering from their turkey comas!
