For Illinoisans, many feelings come up around this time of year, when the warm months begin to wane. The days seem to already be getting cooler, and leaves will start to change color in less than a month. There are many thoughts we have about summer ending that are recurrent each year, and if you're from Illinois, you'll probably recognize all of them.
The days are getting shorter, and soon it will be dark before and after work. Keep scrolling for nine more things we all think when summer is coming to and end.
1. "I can't give up ice cream."
One of the most common desserts, Illinoisans don't see ice cream as just a summer food. We enjoy this sweet treat anytime of year, even in the middle of a blizzard.
2. "I'll wear flip flops until it snows."
We're tough here in Illinois, and a little bit of cold weather isn't going to stop us from wearing our favorite footwear. There's a good chance you'll see us wearing sandals through November.
3. "Football, football, football."
Illinoisans love football just as much as any other state (yes - even you, Texas), and as players are chosen and the preseason kicks into gear, we get super excited. For some, it's the only good thing about fall and winter.
4. "I hope we don't get much snow."
Most Illinoisans remember the snow and ice blizzard from just a few years ago and worry it could come back. Keep scrolling to the bottom of this post for predictions about the upcoming winter in each region of Illinois.
5. "How many more times can I make it to the pool before it closes?"
Especially for kids, this is an important part of the end of summer. They count down the weeks and days until the public pools close as it gets too cold to swim.
6. "I don't want to go back to school."
Whether you're in grade school, high school, or college, most do not look forward to ending their relaxing, care-free summers for eight months of studying. There are those few who look forward to going back, though.
7. "I can finally wear my UGGs."
These comfy shoes are a staple in many wardrobes. Though they are primarily useful during autumn, many prefer to wear them throughout the year.
8. "Halloween decorations are out already?"
They really do seem to come out earlier and earlier each year. Summer still has about three weeks, yet stores are already selling everything from Halloween candy to limited edition pumpkin specialties.
9. "I can't wait for fall."
It's the most beautiful time of year, and Illinoisans can't wait to enjoy all the best things about it. Pumpkin patches, apple cider, leaf piles, and hay wagon rides abound.
