I don’t know about you, but I am a huge fan of quirky roadside attractions that hold some sort of claim to fame. There is nothing quite like feeling the true Americana of a road trip than finding the “World’s Largest” something and snapping a few photos for the books. For anyone that happens to be in Casey, Illinois, it’s not just one gigantic thing to see, but 12. Thus, the reason this small town in Illinois gained the title "Home of the World's Largest Things”.
The story behind Casey, Illinois, being dubbed the "Home of the World's Largest Things" is one of local creativity and community pride.
In the early 2000s, Jim Bolin, a resident of Casey, had a vision to revitalize his small town and attract tourists.
Drawing inspiration from other towns with oversized attractions, Bolin embarked on a mission to create a series of "world's largest" objects scattered throughout Casey.
This massive wind chime stands at over 55 feet tall and features pipes weighing thousands of pounds. Its creation garnered attention and sparked interest in further endeavors.
Encouraged by the success of the wind chime, Bolin and other community members embarked on additional projects, including the World's Largest Rocking Chair…
…World’s Largest Pitchfork…
…and World's Largest Golf Tee, among others.
