Bad drivers can be found anywhere you go, but if you've ever wondered where Idaho ranks among other states then you'll definitely be interested in the results of a recent study by QuoteWizard. Unfortunately, Idaho's capital city made it pretty high on the list of the nation's worst drivers. In fact, Boise ranked 2nd out of the entire country for bad driving. This is a list we're definitely not proud of making, but read on to learn about why the study came to this conclusion.
After analyzing data from millions of insurance quotes, QuoteWizard released a ranking of the best and worst drivers in the country. Unfortunately, Idaho didn't make it on the "best" list, but we certainly made an appearance on the "worst."
Boise, Idaho was named the second worst driving city in the nation, with Portland, Oregon taking the top spot at #1. QuoteWizard, a company that compares insurance quotes, looked at a variety of factors to compile their list including accidents, speeding tickets, DUIs, and citations.
In all, the study looked at the 75 largest cities in the country. They state that cities rated the worst were those with "the highest rate of incidents", and they used only data from 2019. If you were surprised to see Boise ranked in the top five, you definitely weren't the only one.
Unlike the rest of the top five worst ranked cities, Boise had decent rankings in the past. Last year, the City of Trees was ranked 27th worst, which definitely isn't as bad as 2nd. So what exactly went wrong?
First off, Boise evidently has an issue with drinking and driving. The city ranked among the top five highest rate of DUIs in the country. The fact that Boise's a college town could possibly have something to do with the city's apparent drinking culture.
Additionally, Idaho's capital city rated in the top 15 in the country for speeding tickets and citations involving running a red light, using a cellphone while driving, etc. All of these factors combined put Boise in that second ranked spot for bad drivers.
This is a list we're definitely NOT proud to be on, and we can only hope we don't continue to make a habit of it. Let's use caution on those Boise roads and look toward changing that ranking for next year!

Why We Love It: It's taken several trips for me to figure out my perfect "weekender bag that's TSA approved," but I've found my perfect carry on with the TOBIQ Colorado 30L. 1. Craters of the Moon National Monument and Preserve
Craters of the Moon is one of the most fascinating natural wonders in the entire world and it is found right here in Idaho. This is essentially large fields of hardened lava flow that date back thousands of years. Hike, camp, and explore this incredible area in the state — you may not even feel like you are in Idaho anymore! It's one of the most unique places to visit in Idaho.
Of course, our list had to include Idaho’s iconic dessert — potato ice cream! If you want to try it, the birthplace of this dessert is Westside Drive-In in Boise. Stop by to enjoy a burger, drink, and this delicious frozen treat!
Dog Bark Park is actually a hotel that sits inside the world’s largest beagle. This hotel is located right along Highway 95 in Cottonwood and is one of the most unique Idaho roadside attractions. While the outside is pretty remarkable, even the interior is cozy, making for a delightful getaway destination!
The Cedar Street Bridge in Sandpoint is not your average bridge. This unique Idaho bridge has been transformed into a marketplace complete with restaurants, shops, and more. It connects Sandpoint’s downtown area to the train depot on the bank of Sand Creek.
While many other states boast incredible mountain ranges, very few compare to the Sawtooth Mountains. In fact, the Sawtooths are not only one of the most photographed mountains in the entire country but they are also filled with outdoor opportunities galore. The Sawtooth Mountains stretch 678 miles and feature 57 peaks that are greater than 10,000 feet in elevation — very impressive!
While here in Idaho we have potato ice cream, we also have a potato hotel. Idaho is home to a 6-ton potato that was once used to travel around the country and promote Idaho’s crop. Today, it is now a 28-foot-long and 12-foot-wide Airbnb complete with a queen-size bed, indoor fireplace, and more. You can book your stay at the Potato Hotel on Airbnb.
Most other states are home to waterfalls, but very few have falls that are as large and impressive as Shoshone Falls, an impressive Idaho natural wonder. These falls are 212 feet tall and fall off of a 925 feet wide cliff. Shoshone Falls are even larger than Niagara Falls back East, which is why they are often referred to as the Niagara Falls of the West.
