I am proud to call Idaho home and feel blessed to live in this wonderful state. Not only is it full of history and natural wonders, but it is home to some of the most breathtaking beauty. It is home to hundreds of hidden gems that many out-of-state guests don’t even know exist. I have chosen to plant my family’s roots in Idaho and have never once regretted my decision. I’m proud of my home and if you are as well, make sure to check out the Wear Your Roots brand to represent Idaho. Their logo is shown above and it will certainly put a smile on your face as you take a look at nine surefire signs you have strong roots in Idaho.
1. The best day is a day at the lake.
Lake Pend Oreille, Payette Lake, Lake Coeur d’Alene, Bear Lake — it doesn’t matter what lake you visit, it’s going to be the best day ever.
2. You know exactly when huckleberry season begins.
If you have strong roots in Idaho, you know exactly when huckleberry season begins and can’t wait until you have that first lick of fresh huckleberry ice cream or a bite of a huckleberry shake. If you are like me, you may even go out and pick your own huckleberries and refuse to tell anyone your favorite berry-picking locations.
3. The perfect form of relaxation? A natural hot spring!
The Gem State is home to 130 soakable hot springs. While you can always go to a hot spring resort for some relaxation, there is nothing quite like a natural hot spring — it’s typically quiet, beautiful, and peaceful.
4. You have driven on at least one of Idaho’s breathtaking scenic drives (and you likely have a favorite).
With more than 30 scenic byways around Idaho, there are plenty of gorgeous drives just waiting to be explored.
5. You’ve seen many of the state’s waterfalls numerous times and still can’t get enough.
Shoshone Falls, anyone?
6. You’ve had at least one scary winter driving experience.
When the snow begins to fall, it means one thing — Idaho roads can become a little scary. While most Idahoans typically know how to drive safely in the snowy weather, the unpredictable weather can still create driving conditions that make our knuckles white.
7. You have a hard time choosing your favorite terrain.
Hells Canyon, the Palouse, Sawtooth Mountains, the Snake River Plain — this is just the beginning of the incredible topographical features you can see in Idaho.
8. You know there is more than just baked potatoes …
French fries, mashed potatoes, scalloped potatoes, funeral potatoes, and even potato ice cream … just to name a few.
9. You understand that driving across the state is not a quick adventure.
Driving across some states in the country takes only a few hours, but for us in Idaho, it’s a whole day adventure. For example, a drive from Twin Falls to Bonners Ferry is at least 10.5 hours – if no stops are made. That’s okay though, it just gives us more time to enjoy the beauty of our home.
