1. Approximately 70 percent of the trout sold in the United States comes from Idaho.
According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture, the Gem State is the nation’s leader in trout farming.
2. Idaho is larger than all of New England combined.
This means it is larger than Maine, Vermont, New Hampshire, Massachusetts, Connecticut, and Rhode Island. But, the population of Idaho is significantly less. For example, Massachusetts’s population is approximately 7 million. Here in Idaho, our population is just under two million.
3. The town of American Falls completely relocated not once, but twice!
This fact makes American Falls one of the most unique small towns in the entire world!
4. The longest gondola in America is located at Silver Mountain Resort in Kellogg.
This is a 3.1-mile ride from Kellogg’s downtown area to Silver Mountain.
5. Idaho is home to a canyon that is deeper than the Grand Canyon — Hells Canyon.
If you have never visited this incredible canyon in Idaho, add it to your bucket list ASAP.
6. Idaho has a neutral dialect.
This means that Idahoans do not have any type of accent and have the most average pronunciation of words.
7. Idaho not only grows a lot of potatoes - the potato is also the official state vegetable.
This fact may not be that surprising, but it certainly is good to know. The climate, soil, and water are just a few reasons why potatoes grow so well in Idaho.
8. If you add up the total miles the rivers in Idaho flow, it would equal approximately 3,500 miles!
In fact, the most river miles in the United States are here in Idaho.
9. The official state horse of Idaho is the Appaloosa.
