Tucked away in the small town of Shelley, North Bingham County Historical Park makes for a memorable place to spend the day with family. Referred to simply as NBC Historical Park, the park is dedicated to showcasing Idaho's rich history.
Consisting of 10 beautiful acres, this unique park works to keep Idaho history alive...and it does it well. There are over 20 historic sites within the park and you'll want to explore each and every one.
Established in 2000, the idea for the park came when Michael Winston and his high school students brought down a historic one-room schoolhouse that had been located in the mountains around Blackfoot. Winston set to work on restoring the schoolhouse and sharing it with the public.
Today, there are many, many more structures in addition to the schoolhouse. An old barn, a pioneer cabin, a general store, a "school bus" - the park is basically one giant outdoor museum!
You'll love walking from site to site and learning about what each structure contributed to Idaho history. Additionally, the park offers historic tours and Exploration Station worksheets that you can print off from their website. With these resources, you can really dig into the Gem State's past.
If you can, try to structure your visit around the annual Pioneer Day. Every summer, the park holds a celebration complete with local performers, horse-drawn wagon rides, and authentically dressed docents.
