Ever wonder which areas in Georgia are the most dangerous? Now, we're not talking about dangerous because they're haunted, or there are ghostly apparitions just waiting to let out a blood-curdling scream. We're talking about the cities and towns in Georgia which are the most crime-ridden statistically. In fact, these findings are in accordance with FBI crime data based on the crimes per 10,000 capita. The FBI collects crime data through the Uniform Crime Reporting Program (UCR) and uses this data to form statistics related to crime which allows cities and towns to be ranked accordingly. Keep in mind, this data and these statistics are not necessarily a direct reflection of the area as a whole, but it is still worth noting where each place falls on the FBI’s list. Here they are without further adieu, the most dangerous places in Georgia.

1. East Point, Georgia

The most dangerous city in Georgia is the city of East Point. East Point has over 30,000 people living in the city, which clocks in just southwest of the capital city. Unfortunately, the reason why East Point tops the list this year is that the crime average per capital of 100k is highest in every category of crime measured in comparison to both state and U.S. averages. For instance, the murder rate is 22.4 per 100k, compared to the U.S. average of 5.3.

2. College Park, Georgia

While College Park, Georgia is a more populated area in the state, the unemployment rates and crime rates are fairly high. In fact, College Park was once ranked number 1 in violent crime and property crime in the entire state.

3. Eastman, Georgia

Eastman is a city in Dodge County, and while it sounds like #1 on this list, it shouldn’t be confused with it. Eastman has a low population—around 5,000 residents, which likely is a contributing factor to such high crime statistics. The city of Eastman has an incredibly high rate of property crime, almost three times higher than the state average. The violent crime, as well, ranks at 687.2, which is double both the state average and U.S. average.

4. Americus, Georgia

With a name like Americus, you wouldn't normally expect this place to be on the most dangerous list, right? Expect that it ranks extremely high in the state in violent crimes, with a .014 violent crimes per capita.

5. Hapeville, Georgia

Hapeville makes this list as one of the smaller cities, with a population of under 10,000 residents. While the town doesn’t earn much recognition as being a popular tourist destination for those visiting Georgia, it does have some pretty high crime statistics. For example, the murder rate in Hapeville is three times the U.S. average, and collectively the property crime rate, burglary, and larceny nearly top the charts.

6. Albany, Georgia

Albany, Georgia comes in on the list as one of the largest cities mentioned, with a population of over 75,000 residents. However, the crime rates reported for Albany and considerably high, especially the murder rate which is six times the national average. In addition to extremely high murder rates, Albany also holds high statistics in terms of aggravated assault, which is almost four times higher than Georgia’s average.

7. Brunswick, Georgia

Brunswick has gotten a lot of flack for being a dangerous spot for singles and people looking to go out and have fun. It most likely is due to the fact that this place ranks high in violent crimes in the state, clocking in at well over 100 for the year. But at least that is down from 250 from 2011, right?

8. Griffin, Georgia

While Griffin, Georgia remains off the radar for most crimes reported, it still makes the list for most dangerous places in Georgia. It ranks high in violent crimes and even higher in property crimes, which means statistically it could go either way in Griffin.

9. Dublin, Georgia

Dublin, Georgia has a ton of events going on throughout the year, which makes it a popular tourist destination for many. However, with a population of about 16,000 people, there is an overall safety ranking in the city of about 4 out of 10. The problem in Dublin is that the murder rate is nearly three times the national average, and the larceny average is double that of the U.S. average.

10. Warner Robins, Georgia

Warner Robbins, another large city on the list, rounds it out at #10. The population within Warner Robbins has exploded over the past few decades, which has made it a welcoming place for many to settle down. However, the safety ranking in this city is 4 out of 10, and the crime statistics overall—burglary, larceny, property crime, and robbery—are exceedingly high.

11. Rome, Georgia

Rome, Georgia comes in a bit later in the list but still packs a punch in terms of crime statistics. With almost 100 robberies, 125 assaults, and nearly 20 rapes in the past year, Rome tips the scales and can be extremely dangerous.

12. Cordele, Georgia

Welcome to Cordele, the Watermelon capital. But also, a dangerous place to live statistically. There were 847 property crimes in 2013 alone, making it the 4th highest property crime spot in Georgia.
