Why do Georgia folks like to hunt so much, and why is every soda called a Coke? People from other states might not understand--but I know that you will. Here are 10 things you only know to be true if you're from Georgia:
1. You never get used to the pollen.
The pollen gets really thick during the Spring, and it doesn't matter if you were born and raised here; you never get used to it!
2. Don't . Sit . In . The. Grass!
We all know that the moment you sit down in Georgia grass in the middle of a hot day, is the moment your legs and arms will be eaten alive! Heck, just going outside on a hot Georgia day without any OFF spray will leave you really vulnerable to all kinds of bug bites.
3. What real southern food tastes like.
We don't play around when it comes to our southern cooking and we definitely know when southern food is not authentic.
4. If you're not from a major Georgia city, you call your hometown by its county name.
If someone asks you where you're from and you're not from a major city, you're calling out your home county! I'm sure folks from Elbert County (pictured above) do the same.
5. Every soda is a Coke
It doesn't matter if it's really a Sprite, it's called a Coke. Along with sweet tea, Coke is another homegrown Georgia drink.
6. When Alabama plays Georgia it's one of the biggest events of the year
There's nothing we love more than rival collegiate football games. When Georgia or Tech plays Alabama, Ole Miss, or Auburn, you better believe it's a HUGE deal!
7. Hunting Season is a huge deal
Hunting season is also a really big deal in this state. Some other states might not understand, but it makes perfect sense to us.
8. So is deer territory
...
Driving where the deer population is high is a dangerous place to be! Every Georgian knows a deer jumping out in front of your car could mean a totaled car.
9. The potholes on Hwy 285 are dangerous
For my Atlanta residents, we know how horrible the potholes on Highway 285 can be! They are almost as large as your car and are liable to wreck your tires too.
10. We really do live in the best state!
All in all, we really do live in the best state. Not only is it simply gorgeous here, but we have so much history to be proud of, great culture, amazing people, economic opportunities--and the list goes on and on.
Can you relate to most of these? If not, tell me a few things only Georgia folks will understand in the comments below.
