Let's be honest people from Georgia are a pretty unique bunch. Between the use of particular slang to an unusual obsession with the weather, even down to our unhealthy (but not really) loyalty to our athletic teams -Georgians are special. But just how weird are we, do you ask? Here are 12 things that may be considered extremely weird by other state standards.

1. Call a soda a "pop"

Georgians don’t use the term "soda". There is no need for such modern verbiage. Since inception (in our state, ahem…) it’s been a pop, and always will be a pop.

2. Deep fry all the vegetables

While some people like to eat vegetables fresh or even just a simple sauté, Georgians like to deep fry those puppies in order to bring out a savory taste and a nice, coated crunch.

3. Don’t sweeten our tea

Why? Because if you’re getting a tea from Georgia, it better already be sweet.

4. Watch a taxidermy possum drop on New Year’s Eve

Strange, but true. Only Georgians have a stuffed Possum named Spencer, who is lowered in a Christmas-lights-covered-ball in Tallapoosa to ring in the New Year.

5. Have a love/hate relationship with Florida

It goes beyond just sports. It mostly has to do with the fact that our beaches and attractions don’t get half as much attention as they deserve. Because, well it’s Florida.

6. Can navigate our way around all the streets named “Peachtree”

Okay, maybe "all" is an exaggeration, but there are more than 55 streets in Atlanta with the name "Peachtree", so Georgians are well aware that there are more than just one.

7. Put ranch dressing on everything

Some states like ketchup, some like mustard, some even use a good tahini sauce. But Georgians? We think ranch dressing should coat everything at most meals.

8. Use both the heat and the AC in the same week

We just happen to be a state where weather is highly inconsistent. One day you have out your parka, and the next you’re thinking about swimsuits.

9. Call a shopping cart a “buggy”

While some Georgians use the more modern term "shopping cart", the tried-and-true term "buggy" is one that has maintained its presence in our vocabulary for many years.

10. Make sure we don’t curse in front of a corpse

Georgia has some pretty strange laws. One includes the potential to lose a funeral license if one curses or uses obscene language in the company of a corpse. So, we keep it pretty clean in our funeral homes.

11. Plan our weddings around game day

Whether it’s the Braves or UGA, if you’re a fan, you’re definitely not planning any big event on game day.

12. Celebrate our food enough to make town statues for everyone to see

Between the giant peanut in Ashburn, the bowl of Brunswick stew in Brunswick, or the giant rabbit in Gainesville, Georgians love their statues.
