Florida’s Newest Claim To Fame: The World’s Largest Charcuterie Board

In my humble opinion, charcuterie boards have had a major come-up in the past handful of years. People have been diving headfirst into the world of cheeses, meats, pickled veggies, and bread, all rolled into one giant platter of deliciousness. For anyone who has yet to have one, charcuterie boards are delightful culinary creations that showcase an array of cured meats, cheeses, fruits, and accompaniments. It's like a choose-your-own-adventure of flavor pre-meal if you will. Recently, in Florida, a company by the name of Boaredie created the world's largest charcuterie board, and just wait until you see some of these metrics...

Welcome to the Guinness World Record Books, Boarderie! This charcuterie board assembly and shipping company in West Palm Beach recently set out to craft the world’s largest charcuterie board - and they succeeded!

The board weighed in at an incredible 769 pounds, and was modeled after their best-selling Arte board, just multiplied by nearly 170x.

The humungous charcuterie board offered 13 different artisanal cheeses, wire-cut, and five different cured meats. There were olives, nuts, dried fruit, flatbread crackers, chocolates, and more - all measuring about 20 feet by 14 feet.

The co-CEO and co-founder of Boarderie, Aaron Menitoff, said the entire organization of the board took four hours, with assembly taking about an hour. However, it did take 40 of Boarderie’s staff members to assemble.

The board was crafted at the Colony Hotel in Palm Break, and beat the previous record held for the largest charcuterie board by 300 pounds.

Afterwards, nothing went to waste as the entire charcuterie board was donated to a local homeless shelter.

This Is The Most Florida Sound You’ll Ever Hear, And We Can’t Stop Listening To It

Depending on where you are in the state, certain sounds might be quintessentially Florida. For some, it might be the sound of the ocean washing up on the shore. For others, it might be a frog chorus after a rainstorm, the sound of an alligator growling in the night, or the rich Cuban music floating through passing speakers. For me personally, it’s the sound of cicadas in summer and the dead palms rustling against the tree trunk when the wind blows. But that was until I heard the screech of a Limpkin - and that might now be the most Florida sound I’ll ever hear.

The Limpkin is a truly fascinating bird, especially for those intrigued by the natural beauty and wildlife of Florida. Residing in the wetlands of the southeastern United States, with a significant presence in Florida, the Limpkin is a large, unique bird that often draws attention due to its distinctive appearance, behaviors…and SOUND!

What sets the Limpkin apart is its rich brown body adorned with white spots and streaks, and a long bill curving slightly downwards, perfect for its specialized diet.

This bill is specifically adapted to feed on apple snails, which are its favorite meal. The Limpkin's habitat is closely tied to these snails, making marshes, swamps, and lakesides its preferred living spaces.

Another fascinating aspect of the Limpkin is its vocalization; it emits a haunting, eerie cry that can be heard mainly at night, contributing to the mysterious ambiance of Florida's wetlands.

These calls are often mistaken for those of other animals or seen as something out of a spooky tale, adding to the Limpkin's allure.

The sound has been compared to the cries of humans in distress, the calling of banshees from folklore, or the high-pitched squeals of other animals.

I'm a big fan of random trivia, such filming locations. If you're like me, you might wonder, where was "Caddyshack" filmed?

Davie, Florida, has a population of over 100,000 people. However, the Broward County town is only around 35 square miles. But the size and population aren’t its claim to fame. The cult classic film, "Caddyshack," starring Bill Murray, is a favorite among comedy enthusiasts and golf lovers. And many "Caddyshack" filming locations were in the Sunshine State. Let's take a look at some specifics!

Just where was "Caddyshack" filmed in Florida, you ask? The thing about Davie, Florida, is that when you first visit, you probably could imagine an old Western film being shot here without much needing to change.

Horseback riding is very common, and there are plenty of restaurants and buildings downtown that have a lot of Western flair.

However, the iconic '80s classic "Caddyshack" didn’t have any need for a Western backdrop, but instead needed a beautiful sprawling golf course and tons of nice weather.

For those unfamiliar with the film, "Caddyshack" centers around Bill Murray, a groundskeeper at a golf course who is at war over gophers infiltrating a country club tucked away in Beverly Hills.

The film also stars Chevy Chase, Rodney Dangerfield, Ted Knight, Michael O’Keefe, and more.

If anyone had ever asked me where was "Caddyshack" filmed, I would probably guess somewhere in California since the movie is set there. However, the golfing scenes were actually filmed at the Rolling Hills Golf Club in Davie, Florida!

Now known as the Grande Oaks Golf Club, this private golf club was used for the golfing scenes shot throughout the movie.

A few other "Caddyshack" filming locations were captured around South Florida. For instance, the famous pool scene was filmed at the Plantation Country Club, now Plantation Preserve.
