It's hard to find residents that love their state more than Floridians, do. There is something about being a Florida resident that makes people want to shout it from the rooftops! But with this residency comes a few weird quirks along the way. If you are an out-of-towner, then you probably notice these odd habits a bit more easily. Because it's more than likely that residents of the Sunshine State don't even notice at all! Take a look at these 9 strange habits Floridians may have, especially those who still call this place home.
1. Making a crack about winter weather.
Usually, a relative from up north will mention the buckets of snow being dropped, and only then will you remember it is winter everywhere else. Cue joke about Florida "winters" here.
2. Always buying a new sunscreen even though you have 20 at home.
Every time you plan a beach day or you're at the grocery store and summer is quickly coming, you buy a new sunscreen, of course completely forgetting about the 20 others stashed in your vanity and closet and beach bag at home.
3. Avoiding touching the metal parts of your seatbelt during summer.
During the summer months, when you click that seatbelt you know you’re risking some serious burns from the metal belt. So, you subconsciously avoid touching it no matter what. Because, OUCH.
4. Bundling up after it dips below 65 degrees.
We’re not used to certain types of weather here in Florida. So, if that means busting out our scarves and gloves when the weather dips below 65, so be it. This is our winter weather, people.
5. Still wearing shorts and flip-flops after it dips below 65 degrees.
But then again, it still is pretty convenient to just slide on your shorts and flip flops rather than breaking out a whole other winter wardrobe, right?
6. Immediately thinking about Publix subs when someone mentions grabbing sandwiches.
Others may have their hometown deli, but for us it’s Publix. Nothing rivals a Publix sub and when someone suggests Subway over Publix for lunch, you’ll likely just laugh.
7. Completely forgetting what season you’re in.
This happens more often than you think. Then February rolls around and it stays consistently warm in the afternoons and cool in the evenings, and you totally forget that it’s still winter everywhere else!
8. Choosing a shady parking spot over what’s closest to the entrance.
Sometimes avoiding turning your automobile into an oven when it sits in the sun is less appealing than having to walk half a mile into the store.
9. Shrugging off the fact you have to stop your walk/bike/hike to let a gator cross the road.
For Floridians, seeing a gator cross your path is not all that uncommon. And while out-of-state residents might scream or freeze or run in the opposite direction, we just shrug it off and let them cross peacefully. Florida is a shared space after all, right?
