When you move to Southern California, there are many things that might surprise you. Whether it's about the climate, the traffic, or the SoCal lifestyle in general, there are several things you'll soon discover when you become a Southern Californian.
1. Beach life isn't what you expect.
You won't spend as much time at the beach as you think you will. It's nice to know it's right here when you want to visit, but you won't be there every weekend like the tourists do.
2. Outdoor dining all year long.
No matter what season we're in, it's possible to eat outdoors most every day of the year when you live in Southern California. Whether you're dining at a restaurant or in your own backyard, be prepared for the sheer delight of dining under the stars whenever you desire.
3. Islands.
We may not have the kind of islands you'll find in Hawaii, but we do have some pretty lovely islands that are a joy to visit. From Balboa Island to Catalina Island and even Coronado Island, there are picturesque island destinations to visit right here in SoCal.
4. Wine Country.
You may think that wine country is only in Northern California, but SoCal has wonderful wine country, too. You'll find stunning vineyards and beautiful wineries dotted throughout various parts of SoCal that are quite lovely to visit.
5. Farmers markets are everywhere.
Every single day of the week you'll find an abundance of farmers markets with the freshest fruit, veggies, and artisanal foods and goods around. And they're always packed.
6. It's expensive to live here.
You may anticipate a higher cost of living than most places when you move to SoCal, but be prepared to pay even more than you're expecting. From housing prices to gas prices and everything in between, it costs a pretty penny to live here. But I guess that's just the price we have to pay to live in total paradise.
7. Apple Orchards.
Head out to apple country during the fall season and you'll think you've been transported to the east coast or the midwest. You'll find heavenly apple orchards that offer tasty apple cider, apple picking, and good old-fashioned fun on the farm.
8. Snow.
Yes, we really do have snow in SoCal. Travel to one of the nearby mountain towns during the winter season and you'll be treated to beautiful white snow.

9. You'll see some weird and funny stuff.
Whether you're at an outdoor festival, just hanging out at the beach, or strolling through town, you never know what funny sight you'll see when you live in SoCal.
10. Fitness.
We are all a pretty fit bunch in SoCal. Whether we're out for a run, hiking up a mountain, or playing frisbee in the park, we love to be outside exercising.
11. Traffic.
You'll spend a lot more time in your car than you did before. No matter where you're moving from, there's no question that the traffic in SoCal is a lot worse than what you may be used to. Turn up the tunes or start listening to some podcasts to make the time go by faster as you sit behind the wheel.
