We admit it. Living in Northern California has ruined us for anyplace else. It's more than just one thing. It's a whole bunch of things. Sure, we know we have the rest of the country beat when it comes to weather. As a matter of fact, we watch the national news and wonder what in the world you're thinking and why you haven't moved here yet. We're incredibly intelligent and are a bit snobby when it comes to good food. We expect it to be fresh and home grown. We've been raised this way.
Then there's the culture here. It's off the charts. We've given the world music and writers and more talent than you can believe.
For those of you who don't understand us out here, we thought we'd share a few reasons why we'd never, ever leave.
1. NORCAL Beaches + The Weather = We win!
Is there any argument here? With hundreds of miles of coastline, we don't have to fight the crowds and God loves us best and keeps the temps at a comfortable number all year long.
2. Star Wars
Yoda lives here. The birthplace of Star Wars is in Marin County at LucasFilms. George Lucas is also a fan of this part of the state. He was born and raised in Modesto.
3. Mark Zuckerberg
If Yoda isn't enough, there's Mr. Zuckerberg, the face of Facebook. The creator and King of the Social Media Scene. Because of this guy you can stalk your ex without fear of a restraining order.
4. Twitter
You have us to thank for every 140 character pithy comment and photo of a frothy vanilla latte.
5. Google
As if we haven't proven our point with technology yet, how about Google? It was created by a few brilliant PhD students at Stanford. We'll be nice and not hurt your feelings with an Apple iPhone image. We're humble like that.
6. Nevada City
Small towns are everywhere around here. How about one of our favorites: Nevada City - one of the most charming towns this side of the Mississippi. You should see her at Christmas time!
7. Ferndale
Then there's the City of Ferndale, which hates to brag but has more Victorians than any other small town in California.
8. Tom Hanks
Small cities have been the birthplace of celebrities like Tom Hanks, who grew up in the east bay and caught the acting bug while attending Sacramento State. You're welcome, world!
9. Netflix
Based in Los Gatos, Netflix is why you no longer have $42.00 late fees.
10. Danielle Steele
We're home to writers like world-famous Danielle Steele. Your mom has totally read all her books. Admit it.
11. John Steinbeck
We've ALL read "Of Mice and Men." Mandatory reading for any high-schooler. Mr. Steinbeck made his home in Monterey.
12. Journey
If all that isn't enough to convince you, how about one of the greatest bands of all time? JOURNEY!
13. Ansel Adams
An artist who loved Yosemite more than most. He was born in San Francisco and could probably be called the greatest lover of Northern California nature - ever.
14. Sour Dough Bread
But, we also know there's no other part of the world that has sour dough bread like our neck of the woods. Seriously THE BOMB.
15. Vertigo
How many of you can say classics like "Vertigo" were filmed in your part of the state? Not many? We figured.
16. The Birds
Alfred Hitchcock filmed "The Birds" here, too. Years ago, movie makers flocked to this area because of the long sunny days and glorious weather conditions.
17. Wine
Then there's the wine...oh, the amazing wine here. France who?
18. Snow
And snow. But, only when we want it, on our terms. We "visit" snow around here, then head back home again.
19. Cool Stuff Like This
White water rafting on the American River. or cycling through some of the most picturesque valley roads...the choice is ours.
20. The Amazing Food
Fresh, homegrown and amazing. It's why we call it "California Cuisine." Because we're just that awesome.
There's no way we could ever, ever include all the reasons we've been ruined for anywhere else. Help us out and share why Northern California has ruined you in the comments below!
