It's hard to believe the '80s were almost 40 years ago. If you grew up in Southern California during that time, you'll most likely recall a few of these key places and events. Ready to take a walk down memory lane?
1. The 1984 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles.
2. The ever-changing CA license plate. Which one did you have back in the '80s?
3. The 1984 movie Beverly Hills Cop. Now that's a blast from the past! If you remember the movie, you most likely recall that Beverly Hills City Hall was prominently featured throughout the movie as the police headquarters.
4. The celebration at Disneyland in 1980 for their 25th anniversary.
5. Back in 1980, minimum wage in California was $3.10. By 1988 it was $4.25.
6. Main street downtown Los Angeles as it looked in the '80s.
7. The space shuttle landing at Edwards Air Force Base in 1988.
8. The Whittier Narrows earthquake of 1987 is something many people won't forget. The earthquake knocked this ten-ton replica of Michelangelo's David to the ground during the 5.9 magnitude rumble.
9. This star pitcher for the Dodgers made the fans go wild in the '80s. The enthusiasm was quickly named "Fernandomania."
10. Buying records and cassettes at Tower Records. Pictured here is the location on Sunset Boulevard.
My, how time flies! Which one of these do you remember? Maybe all of them! If you want to reminisce even more, here are some great vintage shots of SoCal in 1950, 1960, and 1970. Have a blast going back in time.
