To be honest, this article was inspired by church bulletins and church signs across the state. They might not be religious in nature, and they might not be as universal or important as the biblical Ten Commandments, but these ten are universally important for Arkansans. Just try to break one and see if your grandmother doesn't shake her head at you.
1. Love your family.
2. Help your neighbors.
3. Honor the outdoors.
4. Enjoy wild places.
5. Play with the young.
They’ll keep you young at heart.
6. Listen to the old.
They know things.
7. Never show up to dinner empty-handed.
Bring the beer, bring the casserole, bring anything. Your mama will be really disappointed if you don’t bring something.
8. Go barefoot once in a while.
It might be a stereotype, but it’s a requirement that you walk around without shoes sometimes.
9. Do not covet your neighbor’s garden.
Instead ask if you can help pick the squash. You'll take home a sack of it.
10. Never forget your pocket knife.
Let’s face it, most of us have one. (I have five, actually.) And we carry them around because we’re never sure when we might need it.
For reasons why homegrown Arkansans are the best, read this.
