If you're not already living in Arizona, what everyday sights would genuinely surprise you? We all have an out-of-town friend or two, so be sure to point out these things the next time your friend visits.
1. Prickly pear flavored anything.
Drinks, jelly, candies, wine, the list goes on. Who needs pumpkin spice?
2. Plus nopales in the grocery store.
That’s the paddle of the prickly pear cactus. It is delicious if cooked properly.
3. Saguaro cactus
The state is home to more than 2 million saguaros!
4. Finding a scorpion floating in your toilet or chilling in your bathtub.
Maybe I don’t need to shower today. These things are so creepy to me! But they are a part of life in Arizona...
5. Eegee’s
There’s a shout out for you Tucson folks! The chain is slowly taking over the state though, so be prepared to find it in more places.
6. While we’re at it, BoSa Donuts.
This popular local donut chain has over 50 locations! I'll take a baker's dozen, please.
7. And Pete’s Fish and Chips.
Yum!
8. Amazing sunsets.
So pretty. You can't beat our sunsets!
9. Heated debates over whether to use the term “haboob” or “dust storm.”
Also, Navajo taco or Indian taco? Burro or burrito?
10. No guns signs in storefront windows.
Okay, you may find similar signs in other western states. But, newcomers, if you see someone in the produce section packing, don’t worry. It’s normal.
11. Canals empty of people.
People will go for a morning run next to or even fish in them but you won’t find people swimming in them. You wouldn't want to anyway.
12. The Grand Canyon
Of course. Of all the Arizona natural wonders, this one is the grandest!
13. Javelinas breaking into your yard. Or any wild animal, really.
You can either leave it alone and let it go about its business or scare it off with loud noises.
14. If you’re tired of your current climate, escaping to one cooler or warmer in the same state is just a few short hours away.
There are so many unique places to visit in Arizona to escape the heat. For example, head north to Sedona or Payson where you can find places to swim.
15. A terrible, pothole-filled street right next to one in excellent condition.
Potholes, potholes everywhere.
