Living in Arizona comes with its fair share of quirks that set our people apart from residents of other states, and we've compiled a list featuring seven of the most prominent. Whether you're a native or transplant, as long as you've called the Grand Canyon State home for a significant length of time, chances are you'll relate to most of these.
1. Not setting our clocks forward or back for Daylight Savings Time
While our friends in other states dread the yearly "spring forward," we get to enjoy a full night's sleep. Big thanks to the Arizonan who did away with our participation in Daylight Savings in the 1960s!
2. Decking out our Saguaros for the holiday season
It's like having a bonus Christmas tree! Just admit it: you're jealous.
3. Being able to pull off the road in an instant when we see a dust storm approaching
Perhaps more terrifying than it is quirky, but you have to admit how impressive our driving skills are.
4. And, on that note, dancing around like giddy children when the first rain of the season hits
Monsoons aren't always pleasant to deal with, but they do provide much-needed relief from the oppressive Arizona summer heat.
5. Seeing people holding umbrellas despite the fact that it hardly ever rains a drop
If you've never experienced what the desert heat feels like, you have no room to make fun of our parasols.
6. Our desire to be anywhere except the Grand Canyon
Sure, it's beautiful, but we've been there and done that. Plus, have you seen the crowds?
7. Our undying love for and appreciation of the great outdoors
We might be a little biased, but we're firm believers that Arizona is the most beautiful state of all - and we'll help preserve it for the rest of our lives.
How many of these Arizona habits and quirks can you relate to? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section below, and check out our previous article for some truly striking photos of monsoon season in the Grand Canyon State.
