I say it over and over, but I really think Arizona is an amazing state to live in and I decided a long time ago that I would never want to live anywhere else. But do you ever get hints that maybe, just maybe, you have spent a little too much time here? I personally see it as like a relationship; spending every waking moment with your significant other can be awesome, but sometimes a short respite is needed. Hey, it can even make you appreciate them and their presence a little more.
If you're unsure that you may have spent too much time in Arizona, here are a few tips that maybe a weekend away isn't a bad idea.
1. Dust is just a part of life.
2. So are these:
3. When it finally rains, you realize these are too brittle to do their job.
4. You can never find your umbrella when you need it.
Life tip: Keep an umbrella with you to block the sun and you'll always have it in case there's rain.
5. Also, a breakfast burrito is most certainly the breakfast of champions.
How do you like yours? I take mine Navajo-style: potatoes, eggs, Spam, and green chile wrapped in a thick, homemade tortilla.
6. Your local burrito or tamale lady (or man) knows you by name.
Maybe it wouldn't hurt to try something else for lunch.
7. Hot day and stuck in the office? This seems like a dream.
8. You've perfected how to sit in the pickup bed while riding down a dirt road.
Driving down a washboard or one that has been heavily eroded by water? Those are the worst.
9. What some consider gangly trees, you think are sculptural, Seussian, and downright beautiful.
10. In Tucson, these are undoubtedly eegees.
Other areas of the state: raspados or Hawaiian shaved iced.
11. You lament people always forgetting any place outside of Phoenix.
I know I'm guilty of that.
12. When you travel out of state, you don't even bother getting Mexican food (unless it's another border state). Few places come close to offering perfection on a plate.
13. You find yourself thinking, “105? I guess it could be hotter.”
It could always be worse. It was so hot, this thermometer just gave up.
14. Or, alternatively, “30 degrees? I guess it could be colder.”
What are some other hints that you may need some time away from Arizona?
