When was the last time you watched a movie and noticed that something about the setting seemed vaguely familiar? Probably in more movies than you would imagine! Today, we're going to take a look at twelve movies that were filmed in Arizona.
1. The Fantasticks, 1995
Based on the musical by the same name, filming locations included Sonoita and San Rafael Valley.
2. Hulk, 2003
The first attempt at creating a film for this superhero included scenes filmed near Lake Powell.
3. Indiana Jones and the Tempe of Doom, 1984
The rope bridge scene was partially shot in Arizona, apparently in the Page area.
4. Midnight Run, 1988
This comedy had a long list of filming locations including Salt River Canyon, Sedona, and Globe.
5. Murphy’s Romance, 1985
Recognize the main street in the movie? It, along with the rest of the movie, were filmed in Florence.
6. Natural Born Killers, 1994
This controversial Oliver stone film was filmed in plenty of areas in the Southwest but Holbrook was also featured in the film.
7. Tank Girl, 1995
Although it is supposed to be set in Australia, most of this dystopian film was shot in the Tucson area.
8. Universal Soldier, 1992
This action film starring Jean-Claude Van Damme includes scenes shot at Hoover Dam and several other Arizona locations.
9. Used Cars, 1980
You will get a 1980 view of Mesa and Tempe when you watch this comedy about used car salesmen.
10. Waiting to Exhale, 1995
This movie about women searching for real, fulfilling love was filmed almost entirely on location in the east Valley, including Fountain Hills, Scottsdale, and Chandler.
11. The War of the Worlds, 1953
The first of many film versions, some scenes of the movie were shot in Phoenix and Florence. Also, apparently members of the Arizona National Guard were used in army footage.
12. Wayne’s World, 1992
The film based off the popular Saturday Night Live sketch, the film was primarily shot in Mesa and Scottsdale despite being based in Illinois.
