Visit the largest dinosaur display on the West Coast with your family. Located inside South Bay Galleria mall in Redondo Beach, Wonder of Dinosaurs provides the best educational tours and dinosaur-themed recreation for the young and young at heart. Here is what you can expect on this day trip.
The museum opens daily, except on holidays from 10:00 am to 8:00 pm. It is best to purchase your general admission tickets online; however, you could get them upon arrival. Kids 12 years and below pay an admission fee of $16, while those 13 and above pay $8.
Wonder of Dinosaurs has a massive exhibit floor featuring over 100 static and robotic dinosaurs. Each dinosaur display consists of detailed, scientific information and fun facts about the creature.
The King, Tyrannosaurus Rex, is worth the visit. This educational tour discusses its 2-million-year reign in the late Cretaceous and provides insight into the most heated debate in paleontology — was T-Rex a pure hunter or a scavenger, as well?
Brachiosaurus is another exhibit with realistic fossils that is a must-see. The setup is lovely, mimicking the herbivore's natural habitat. It consists of faux carpet grass, artificial plants, well-sculpted eggs, and a few hatchlings and juveniles in robotic motion.
Wonder of Dinosaurs offsets educational tours with an array of dinosaur-themed activities. There is a super fun 18-hole mini-golf course bordered by dinosaurs that the whole family can enjoy. Tickets are $4 per person, which is not included in the regular museum admission fees.
Another wonderful activity is Ride-A-Trex. You can find this spinning dinosaur on the second floor of the museum. There is a 120-pound weight limit, so keep that in mind. Rides cost $2 per person, in addition to the general admission fees.
Please note that Wonder of Dinosaurs requires children to wear grip socks to play in the bouncers. If you forget yours, you can purchase one on the premises. Prepare for your visit by learning more about the museum.
