The history of Filippi’s Pizza Grotto is a long and successful one. The DePhilippis family moved to San Diego in 1947, when they opened a little market that was then called Cash & Carry Italian Foods.
That market is still accessible today, and you can get some of the best Italian food in San Diego here. It has expanded to become Filippi’s Pizza Grotto in Little Italy, and has opened other locations since then.
The classic Italian interior decoration will make you you feel right at home as soon as you walk in.
This restaurant is owned and operated by the same family to this day, and you will get to try their old family recipes when you make the trip. One standout is the incredible ravioli.
You can also order a great glass of Italian wine to coordinate perfectly with your dinner. If you especially like what you order, you can pick up a bottle at the market.

Why We Love It: It's taken several trips for me to figure out my perfect "weekender bag that's TSA approved," but I've found my perfect carry on with the TOBIQ Colorado 30L. An Instagram ad caught my eye during a late-night scroll session and I was intrigued by the colorful compartments and versatility of the bag, which can be carried as a duffle or as a backpack (I prefer the backpack for even weight distribution and airport navigation.) Why I Love It: Fact: Airplanes are notoriously dry, dry, dry. No matter how much water I drink both before and during the flight, I always find myself in a hydration deficit for days.
