Harold Leagaux Sr. and his wife Mary Belle opened Harold and Belle’s Restaurant in 1969, and since then it has been run by the family. The couple ran the restaurant until 1979 when Harold Sr. passed, after which Harold Jr. and his wife Denise took over.

Harold Jr. transformed the restaurant into a more fine dining establishment and changed the decor to fit the new aesthetic. In 1984, he got new partners and expanded the restaurant to 35 dining tables.

The menu also got lots of new items at that time, including Creole favorites like shrimp scampi, crawfish etouffee, and filé gumbo. Other great options for an authentic New Orleans-style meal today include jambalaya, Cajun salmon, and Louisiana-style catfish.
