I was born and raised in sunny Southern California and will never tire of the West Coast, although I spent several years living in Southeast Asia, about as far from California as you can get. Wherever I am in the world, I love straying from the beaten path, experiencing local life, and discovering hidden gems - camera in hand. The beach is my happy place and when I am not there (or writing), you will usually find me baking, watching movies, and cuddling my pugs. I have traveled around the country and around the world, and it never, ever gets old. Being able to combine my passion for travel and my love of writing is nothing short of a dream.
I grew up going to neighborhood parks with friends and family – enjoy group picnics, climbing around playgrounds, hiking, riding bicycles, playing baseball, volleyball, and tennis, etc. I still love local parks and I recently discovered a great one that offers fun for all ages and interests – Recreation Park in Long Beach, CA.
Long Beach’s Recreation Park is a sprawling community park spread over almost 211 acres with recreational activities for everyone. The park was purchased by the city in 1923, and in 1991, it was designated a City of Long Beach historic landmark.
Benches, picnic tables, and even a skateboard park element are also part of the family-friendly park.

Golf enthusiasts can come and enjoy a round on either the 9-hole or 18-hole golf course, and can take advantage of the golf course clubhouse facilities.
If your babies are of the fur variety, Recreation Park caters to them, too, with a huge on-site dog park where they can play and meet new friends. It has plenty of benches and trees for pet parents and a water bowl filling station.
Recreation Park’s facilities include the Billie Jean King Tennis Center, baseball fields, and a community center which offers a huge range of community events and classes for kids and adults.
Another city park known sits immediately adjacent to Recreation Park, Colorado Lagoon, and inland lake with a sandy beach, swimming, model boat activities, a playground, and more picnic areas.
Have you ever been to Recreation Park in Long Beach, CA? We would love to hear what you think about it. This is just one of the places worth exploring in the city; there is so much to do in Long Beach! If you have never been, I highly recommend visiting the Aquarium of the Pacific as well.
