With over 100 beaches, Southern California's coastal beauty is unlike any place else in the country. And with the region's high population, many beaches are overrun with people. However, there are several beaches that are tucked away, places that not many know about. If this sounds appealing to you, then maybe you'll consider taking the Dana Point Trail hike that leads to a secret beach complete with caves.
Dana Point is a coastal city in Orange Country with an absolutely gorgeous preserve along the water that protects over 150 species of native plants and animals.
Dana Point Headlands Conservation Area has a trail that leads hikers past coastal bluffs and down to a rocky hidden beach with caves.
This remarkable out-and-back trail is 1.2 miles long and is good for all skill levels. It's a wonderful, easy hike that the whole family can enjoy.
With such a rocky shoreline, make sure you are wearing proper footwear. Also, check the tides before you visit. You will want to explore the shore at low tide when you can have easier access to the sea caves!
If the tide is high, you may not have access to the caves at all.
Feel free to go inside a cave and explore and look back out towards the sea to watch waves crash along the rocks.
Hiking along the rocky shoreline to the caves is worth the scenery and there are plenty of tidepools during low tide that kids will love to explore as well.
This hidden beach, along with sea caves, is one of SoCal's best-kept secrets. There's no other place quite like this!
