I was born and raised in sunny Southern California and will never tire of the West Coast, although I spent several years living in Southeast Asia, about as far from California as you can get. Wherever I am in the world, I love straying from the beaten path, experiencing local life, and discovering hidden gems - camera in hand. The beach is my happy place and when I am not there (or writing), you will usually find me baking, watching movies, and cuddling my pugs. I have traveled around the country and around the world, and it never, ever gets old. Being able to combine my passion for travel and my love of writing is nothing short of a dream.
I have found that, in many places, while wineries are often located in picturesque settings (like vineyards, for instance), breweries are frequently either presented as family restaurants or located in more industrial-feeling settings. That, among other things, is what makes Eppig Brewing in San Diego, CA, something of a unicorn and a place any beer-loving visitor to the city will want to spend a little time.
Eppig Brewery’s Waterfront Biergarten is a cool, modern taproom situated right on the waterfront of America’s Cup Harbor in Point Loma.
At Eppig Brewing, you’ll get more than just a taste of great beer but a real taste of history and family roots. The Eppig family brewing tradition goes back to a successful business that started in New York in 1866. It endured through the Prohibition era and was brought back to life here in San Diego, CA.
In this scenic locale, you will find a wide variety of different brews each time you visit. Dive in head-first and try a glass of something new or opt for a beer flight to sample a few to discover your next fave.
Then sit back, relax, and enjoy these craft brews on the patio with panoramic views of the yacht-filled marina, San Diego’s Shelter Island, and the city skyline. And feel free to bring your fur baby because Eppig’s patio is happily dog-friendly!
Most of the Biergarten seating is outdoors, but if you prefer sitting inside, there is limited indoor seating available in the airy tasting room on a first-come, first-served basis.
The taproom has a small selection of snacks you can purchase, but if you are hungry for a little more, you are welcome to pick up food from one of the many fantastic restaurants in the area and bring it to enjoy with your brews and views.
When you fall in love with one (or more) of Eppig Brewing’s products, there are plenty of options for taking your beer of choice home to enjoy with your own familiar views, starting with 4-packs to go and 32-ounce, recyclable Crowlers filled to order.
You can also bring or purchase a 32-ounce, 64-ounce, or one-gallon Growler to be filled at the taproom. Need beer for a crowd? Eppig has you covered there, too, with a variety of keg sizes available with a minimum of three days advance notice.
Whether you live in San Diego or are just passing through, this is a perfect place to grab a cold one. Have you ever been to the Biergarten? We would love to know what you think, so share your experience with us. You can find out more and see what’s currently on tap by visiting the Eppig Brewing website or stay up to date by following Eppig Brewing on Facebook. If you are bringing your favorite beer-lover to this awesome waterfront spot and could use a cool gift, check out this personalized growler – it’s insulated which makes it excellent for travel, too!
