We're enjoying some classic South Dakota spring weather right now - sunny one day, cloudy and rainy the next. But you know that any minute now, summer is going to pop its head through the clouds and we'll be enjoying some nice, warm weather. When that happens, you're going to want to find a nice, cool lake with a beach to lounge on. We've got just the beach for you!
Sylvan Lake is a gorgeous lake that was created in 1881 when a dam was built across Sunday Gulch. It's located in Custer State Park.
To make the most out of your day at Sylvan Lake, get there early. The parking lot can fill up fast on a beautiful weekend morning!
You'll love the pristine beach here. You're surrounded by pines, huge boulders, and of course, the stunning lake.
The beach can be pretty busy on a hot summer Saturday, but you might make some great new friends.
You'll find plenty of room to swim, and even jump from some of the smaller boulders.
While you're here, take a stroll along the Sylvan Lake Shore Trail - it makes a one mile loop around the lake.
Watch for wildlife - it's plentiful around the lake. You might see buffalo, deer, rabbits, squirrels and more.
Rent a paddleboat, canoe or kayak to explore even more of the lake.
If you're not ready to leave after a day of basking in the sun and playing in the water, camp overnight!
