The oldest and longest running restaurant in South Dakota is located in the historic town of Deadwood - no surprise there! Like many of the attractions and establishments there, it was built at the peak of the gold rush. While many other places faded away once the gold seemed to do the same, there were some that continued to thrive onto today. This place has a very fitting name, and that is Deadwood Legends Steakhouse. With a history like this, it truly is legendary.
The restaurant is part of the equally historic Silverado Franklin Hotel. Originally built in 1902 and opened in 1903, this hotel was built on the site of one of the very first discoveries of gold in the area, which led to the town of Deadwood being there in the first place.
The hotel was extremely lavish and luxurious for its time. Many notorious legends stayed there throughout the years, and pretty much all of them enjoyed eating at the Legends Steakhouse during their stay.
The famous faces that have stopped by the restaurant are displayed today. Some names that have been there include Babe Ruth, John Wayne, Buffalo Bill, and even some former US presidents like Theodore Roosevelt and William Taft. You can definitely see how this place got its name!
The food is equally legendary. With steak cuts this thick and prime rib almost too big for the plate, your mouth will be watering the second you walk in.
Today, the hotel is still running and includes a casino as well as a restaurant. You can find more information about Legends Steakhouse by clicking here.
