Welcome to the super historical and equally snowy town of Lead! As soon as you drive into town limits, it feels like you're crossing into a winter wonderland. Boasting an average snowfall of nearly 200 inches, Lead can almost always be seen with a generous dusting of snow, especially in those mid-fall through late-spring months. And nothing makes it feel like winter (in a magical way) than a healthy dusting of snow.
To put into perspective how much snow that is, the town with the second most snowfall (North Spearfish) receives an average of 134 inches per year, followed by 133.9 inches (Deadwood). So Lead is far and away the best place to experience the colder months!
As you can imagine, Lead is positively beautiful when covered in snow, especially along charming Main Street. You might think you've been transported to a faraway alpine ski resort, but it's right here during Christmas in South Dakota. If you are a fan of outdoor sports in the winter, there is truly no better place to be than Lead, as there are ample opportunities for skiing, snowboarding, and sledding. Why We Love It: It's taken several trips for me to figure out my perfect "weekender bag that's TSA approved," but I've found my perfect carry on with the TOBIQ Colorado 30L.
