It's not difficult at all to find a place where you can camp year-round in South Carolina. Beyond that, it's really just a matter of choosing a spot with amenities and activities that match your own interests. If you'd love to get away to someplace different for a camping experience like no other (and we mean NO OTHER), then you'll want to head to the tiny town of Silverstreet (population: about 150) to spend the night or weekend alongside the beautiful Saluda River at Saluda River Resort.
This unusual camping resort is located about 10 miles southeast of Newberry, meaning it's not terribly far off the beaten track of Interstate 26.
Here's the kicker and what makes this camping resort so different from others: It's located right on the Saluda River.
Even better is the campground's little canal that allows small boats that launch here to not only have direct access to the river, but also tie up along the banks of that canal. Talk about convenience!
If you have a small boat or even a pontoon, then this is the trip you'll want to have it along.
That's because one of the most fun activities at this camping resort is chasing fish. But not just ordinary fish...
For some reason, the catfish LOVE this part of the river.
These images aren't from any fishing tournament. These are just honest-to-goodness campers who've scored big with enough catfish to fee the whole campground.
Just last summer, a guest scored a 54.8-pound catfish.
And catfish aren't the only scaly swimmers you can find on your hook here.
But while fishing is a huge pastime at Saluda River Resort, visitors here will also find a swimming pool, perfect for lounging in the sun.
And the resort (literally located in the middle of nowhere) also has a camp store that has virtually everything you'll need in case you forgot some staples needed for camping.
If you're seeking a fun weekend away at a place that has year-round camping in South Carolina and maybe even some relaxing fishing while you're there, then Saluda River Resort is a wonderful choice. But if you're seeking a luxurious camping experience where everything is just like home, then you should look elsewhere. Camping here is a bit on the rustic side, although toilets and hot showers are available. Learn more from the Saluda River Resort website. And good luck reeling in one of those enormous catfish!
