The experts say that when it comes to the age-old debate of beach versus mountains, those who prefer the mountains are typically introverts, those who are philosophical and look to nature when searching for answers, and who would rather be an audience than a performer. Is this you? Both the beach and the mountains have their own intriguing qualities and mysterious beauty. Regardless if you prefer one over the other, the upstate area is the place to be whenever the mood may strike for mountain scenery. And Butterfly Ridge Mountain Retreat in South Carolina is a charming bed and breakfast to visit for your getaway trip.
Nestled into 10 acres on Shack Hollow Road in the tiny town of Salem, this bed and breakfast is charming and beautiful, the perfect setting for a peaceful, relaxing mountain getaway.
Butterfly Ridge Mountain Retreat looks like an HGTV Dream house. The lodge has a sitting room and little library, decks ...
... a game room, and three suites, each with its own private entrance and a balcony or patio with seating.
Each suite will sleep two adults, although, well-behaved children and pets are welcome. Both the Mountain View Suite (pictured here) and the Captain's Suite come with gorgeous mountain views, while the Foothill Suite has ground-level entry.
In addition to the suites, there's an adorable, rustic butterfly cottage available as well.
You'll wake each morning during your time of escape to the mountains hearing singing birds and soothing sounds from the water fountain. The owner, Kim, has an extensive background in clinical nutrition and provides a delicious plant-based breakfast.
You can also request lifestyle and wellness counseling services during your stay or join a scheduled retreat. Kim has been teaching fitness and plant-based cooking classes for many years and specializes in work with metabolic syndrome disorders, including cancer, diabetes, and heart disease.
The fairy garden at night is magical. It's a great spot for quiet reflection and to end the day.
And while it's certainly beautiful year-round and there's a lot to do and see in Salem, fall foliage in South Carolina is best viewed in the mountains.
You'll find more information and can book your stay at the Butterfly Ridge Mountain Retreat website, and get updates on the Butterfly Ridge Mountain Retreat Facebook page.
