And now we’ve created a fun spontaneous road trip in South Carolina that might have some of us who are die-hard planners a little anxious with the idea of spontaneity. Let me reassure any of you who may hesitate there, you can still do some planning with this suggested road trip itinerary!
The route for this spontaneous road trip through South Carolina includes nine stops located strategically within the state intended to make it convenient no matter where you live to hop into the route at whatever point is closest to you. Now, we've made our starting point Camden, but if you need to adjust to better suit for your location, go to Google Maps and customize your route accordingly.
The total drive time for this trip comes to just under eight hours. You'll need to account for any drive time if you do not live directly along this route. And then estimate about how much time you'll want to spend at each stop to plan for your total time you'll need for this trip. If you want to make it a day trip, you could select whichever stops most appeal to you and forego the others or save them for another day. Stop 2: Matthew's Fruit Stand – Lake City

Shop fresh fruits, vegetables, peanuts, jarred goods, and all-occasion fruit baskets at Lake City's iconic fruit stand. The mural was added in 2023 as a part of the city's annual ArtFields event. It's a beautiful memorial for Ross Matthews, former owner of the fruit stand.

Stop 3: Old Santee Canal Park – Moncks Corner

This stop is worthy of a day trip all by itself. You will have to decide how much time to spend at this 195-acre park with hiking trails, a paddle trail, historical features, and more.
Stop 4: Eatery at the Depot – Branchville

Have your first treat or a full meal along this fun travel adventure in South Carolina at the Eatery at the Depot in Branchville, a tiny town whose claim to fame is it's home to the world's oldest railroad junction.

Obviously, you'll need cooperation from the sun for this stop along our road trip in South Carolina, so if that's not happening the day you travel, you may want to save this one for another day unless you just want to see the clock in person.

Stop 8: Barakah Heritage Farm – Winnsboro

Winnsboro may be best known as the home of the South Carolina Railroad Museum or perhaps even as home to the oldest clock in the country. While you can certainly visit either of these attractions instead if you'd prefer (or all of them if you want to spend more time here), we decided to highlight the Barakah Heritage Farm for this spontaneous road trip. At this farm you can take some really neat workshops or classes, such as the Learn to Speak "Horse" class, the Horsemanship and Riding program, and more (including goat-focused options if you'd prefer)! Stop 9: Olde Town Hall Restaurant & Pub – Ridgeway

And last but not least, we'll wrap up this adventurous South Carolina road trip with a delicious meal at the Olde Town Hall Restaurant & Pub, located in the historic 1904 former town hall & jail. Ridgeway is also home to the world's smallest police station, which is worthy of a stop while in town!
