Sometimes in life you just want to throw your hands up and move someplace that doesn't have a million people milling about. There are times when you just want to get away from everything: the afternoon traffic when all you want to do is get home, the traffic jam at the mall, the lines at the grocery store. Perhaps you want to find a small town that is comfortable instead of feeling as if you are awash in a sea with no rock to cling to? Well, if any of these things sound like something you have thought of or if you just want to make a list for possible "runaway" spots than I have 15 towns that might just be for you!
1. Olar, SC
It's a little dot on map that most people have never heard of unless they live there or close by. Population is around 300 people on a good day if everyone is home, but Barnwell and Denmark are close by and Orangeburg is just a bit down the road.
2. Hilda
Just outside of Barnwell, Hilda has a little more than Olar, but not much more. In any case, Barnwell is only about 5 minutes away and has a lovely little downtown area as well as cozy and comfortable grocery stores instead of megamarts.
3. Lake City
Lake City is a small town just about 20 minutes from Florence. It's a great place to get away, but not too far away. Florence has about everything that one could ever need.
4. Ninety Six
It's a wonderful place to move to if you want a strong community and great people who strive to make it a great place to live.
5. Ruby
Ruby sounds awfully nice doesn't it? It's just about 3 miles outside of Chesterfield so, even if you want to get far away from everything there's still a place just down the road to get what you need. By the way, that is their town hall.
6. Due West
Due West sits in Abbeville County and is a really lovely place if you're looking for smaller town charm.
7. Andrews
Just small enough to be small town and big enough to give you a great place to live. There's entertainment here without huge mall traffic jams.
8. Clover
Just south of the North Carolina border and not too far from York, sits Clover which was named one of South Carolina's prettiest and most charming towns.
9. Hardeeville
No, you're not seeing things. That's a pink elephant there and Hardeeville is just as rare. It's far enough away from everything, but close enough to a larger town that it won't take you all day long to get there.
10. Honea Path
Honea Path is known as the little town with the big heart and claims that it's South Carolina's best kept secret. If you want a good community and a quiet, peaceful life than move here.
11. Inman
Inman rests in Spartanburg County and is an awesome place to move to if you're looking to get away from it all.
12. Manning
Really, if you moved here you wouldn't have to go anywhere else. There's approximately 4,000-5,000 people here that are some of the friendliest you'll meet. The town also boasts trails and recreational areas such as Lake Marion.
13. Seabrook Island
Seabrook is definitely the place where you can go and get away from the city. You'll smell the fresh sea air, roam the untamed lands, and barely hear a car.
14. Society Hill
Society Hill is quite small, but it's an ideal place if you're looking to get away from the big city.
15. Yemassee
Yemassee lies in the heart of the Lowcountry inside of Beaufort County. You can't go wrong moving here. You can always live here and work in Beaufort. It's not that far of a drive.
There are a lot of times in everyone's lives when you just want to get out of "Dodge". I understand and so do a lot of others. Thankfully, South Carolina can be that quiet haven for you. We have more than just 15 places that you could run away to, but this list provides you with a great start if that's what you're after.
