At less than two square miles and under 2,000 residents, there's no doubt that Blacksburg is tiny. It may be barely more than a speck on a map, but the area is filled with beauty and charm. Take a stroll through the downtown area and enjoy the peace and quiet of the tree-lined streets.

Blacksburg was incorporated in 1876. Blacksburg was named after John G. Black, a Confederate veteran who was instrumental in the town's development.

Though it started as a railroad station hub, the town has plenty of green spaces to attract nature lovers of all ages.

Nicknamed the "Iron City," Blacksburg was famous in the late 1800s as a boom town. Massive quantities of iron ore were discovered here, and miners flocked to the area in hopes of striking it rich. The town was so wealthy that it was one of the first in the state to have electric street lights.

The city was actually officially named Iron City before settling on the name Blacksburg in 1888. Nowadays, the moniker is the town's official nickname and you'll spot it all over the city.

The annual Iron City Festival is held the third weekend in April to commemorate the town's founding. Thousands of people swarm the area to check out local vendors, artists, and musicians.

Outside of festival weekend, things are generally pretty quiet in Blacksburg. There's lots of nature to check out. Fishing is a popular pastime in the region, and Blacksburg boasts plenty of places to cast a line!

The town has a historic past and is home to Kings Mountain National Military Park, the site of a major Revolutionary War battle.

Kings Mountain is the site of the Battle of Kings Mountain, a significant victory for the patriots in the American Revolutionary War. The 4,000 acre park was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1996.

Conveniently located just off I-85, Blacksburg straddles the line between the Carolinas. It's a little under an hour south of Charlotte, North Carolina.
