If you've ever had the pleasure to travel to Italy then you know just how amazing it is to dine on authentic Italian food. Time-honored recipes passed down through generations coupled with the ambiance of cozy Italian trattorias make the experience just plain romantic and absolutely incredible. You'll be glad to know you don't have to fly across an ocean to devour Old World flavors found in homemade pasta dishes and more. There's a trattoria right here in South Carolina that's worthy of a visit.
Welcome to Pane E Vino, a trattoria found 21 miles south of Charleston in the tiny town of Hollywood.
A quick history behind Pane E Vino: the trattoria operated for years in downtown Charleston until COVID pressed pause on the operation. It closed and then reopened a few months ago in Hollywood in a former fire station.
And the space is reminiscent of a trattoria you might wander into right off the streets in Italy.
Folks who fell in love with Pane E Vino when it was located in downtown Charleston are in love with the restaurant's new home. And for those who don't care to fight the crowds or dare to park downtown, well... Pane E Vino is a delight.
Come on in and see for yourself.
The wait staff always receives reviews for outstanding service. The restaurant has an extensive wine offering and the staff always know exactly what pairs best with your entree.
Speaking of entree, everything here at Pane E Vino is made from scratch, in-house. From Lasagna Alla Sergione to Spaghetti alla Bolognese, to Braciola di Maiale and oh-so many more delicious options.
The menu is extensive and don't worry about brushing up on your Italian before you go. All items are deliciously explained (in English) under the entree name.
After opening the reincarnated Pane E Vino over in Hollywood back in June from Wednesday through Saturday, the owner (who is also the head chef) decided to extend the operation to Tuesday nights and has declared Tuesday as pizza night. It's the only night of the week you can get a delicious brick-oven-fired pizza.
If you love pizza, add this spot to your Tuesday night bucket list.
And whatever you do, be sure to come hungry enough to order dessert!
As mentioned earlier, everything here is house-made. The cheesecake is to die for. But bring enough people to order one of everything. Chef Alfredo's Tiramisu is a solid choice, as are the cannoli, biscotti, and the custard.
You'll love that the kitchen at Pane E Vino is in full view.
Dine inside and enjoy watching the staff make your meal. Or...
Dine on the patio, weather permitting, and enjoy this lovely little courtyard that's hiding in plain view way out in the country south of Charleston.
Pane E Vino is open Wednesday through Saturday from 4:30 p.m. to 10 p.m. On Tuesday it's open from 4:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. and serves only brick oven pizzas and salads. If you love wine, see the extensive wine list here. The name, Pane E Vino translates to "bread and wine," by the way. But you'll find so much more than just that here!
