South Carolina has been home for AnneMarie since 2001. Her favorite part of the state is Lake Jocassee. An App State alumna, it's always the mountains; the lake bonus makes it heavenly. When not writing about the state, she may be spending time with family, relaxing by the pool, or out somewhere enjoying nature.
There’s just something extra special about some restaurants. You know what we mean (and if you haven’t found one of these yet, you’re about to be introduced to one!) – those places that offer so much more than a good meal. They hit on all cylinders, from service to atmosphere to commitment to bettering the community. This and more are what you find at The Cottage Cafe in Bluffton.
The Cottage Cafe is located on Calhoun Street in historic Old Town Bluffton, and for starters, it's housed in a restored 1868 cottage with incredible history. It was built by J.J. Carson, who was a Confederate soldier known for saving General Stonewall Jackson's life during the Civil War battle of Chancellorsville. He also organized the First Baptist Church of Bluffton, and services were held at the cottage until the church building was completed.
This spot is now owned by Leslie Rohland, who has transformed it into an enchanting, popular restaurant.
Guests are drawn in at The Cottage Cafe because of its old-world charm, atmosphere, and Southern hospitality. It's become a go-to brunch choice in the Bluffton-Hilton Head area.
This cafe's cuisine has won both local and national awards, with some of its more popular dishes including fried green tomatoes, crab cakes, and shrimp and grits, which were named among the top five in the entire state of South Carolina!
For those with dogs, perhaps the best thing about this eatery is it's dog-friendly and even has a canine menu. Take your furry friend along with you for a treat!
Afterward, head to the Buckwalter Place Greenway Trail for a leisurely walk (dogs allowed on-leash). If you’re traveling from out of town and want to stay overnight, check out the unique place right in Old Town Bluffton where you can stay, convenient for further exploration of this charming town:
