It's beach season and with Memorial Day soon approaching we decided to round up some beaches off the beaten path so you can plan accordingly. Maybe these little known beaches in South Carolina can help you avoid the Memorial Day crowds...if that's even possible. Or, you can simply play it cool and get to one of these THIS weekend to beat the crowds. Why wait? Right?
1. Mitchelville Beach - Hilton Head Island, SC
Looking for an unusual beach in South Carolina? You'll find it at Mitchelville Beach where the tree line goes practically all the way to the water line. At low tide it's a marvel to see! Getting there: 124 Mitchelville Road, Hilton Head, SC 29938
2. Crescent Beach - North Myrtle Beach, SC
Believe it or not, there are some quiet spots on the Grand Strand. Crescent Beach is one of them. It's far enough away from the boardwalk and high-rise buildings to get away from the big crowds. Families love it here.
Getting there: S Ocean Blvd and 17th Ave S, North Myrtle Beach, SC 29582
3. Folly Field Beach - Hilton Head Island, SC
Folly Field Beach is a small quiet beach away from the crowds. It's a clean spot that has a restroom near the beach and parking area. The emptiness may have something to do with the limited parking in the two small lots. (Hint: get there early for a spot...)
Getting there: 55 Starfish Drive, Hilton Head, SC
4. Litchfield Beach - Pawleys Island, SC
Pristine wide and white sandy beaches are the mark of family-friendly and quiet Litchfield Beach on Pawleys Island.Getting there: Pawleys Island, SC
5. Driessen Beach at Driessen Beach Park - Hilton Head Island, SC
Driessen Beach is a short walk on a marked path from this fun little kids park on Hilton Head Island.Getting there: 64 Bradley Beach Road, Hilton Head, SC
6. Edisto Beach State Park - Edisto Island, SC
Edisto Beach State Park is often overlooked by the crowds that tend to flock to the hustle and bustle of a crowded beach. You'll find sparsely populated wide open beach, and maybe a few shells here and there. Getting there: 8377 State Cabin Road, Edisto Island, SC 29438
7. Burkes Beach - Hilton Head Island, SC
A local favorite, Burkes Beach at low tide has enough sand to build a football field from the dunes to the water, longways. She's photographed here with a November moon. Just beautiful!Getting there: 60 Burkes Beach Road, Hilton Head, SC
