Last year we wrote about a remote steakhouse that is perfect for special occasions. It was and is a fantastic place for a celebration. The following restaurant is also remote - even though it's literally right off the main highway on the coast. Read on to discover a South Carolina restaurant that's located on the edge of the continent, way out of the way for most South Carolinians. But it is so worth the drive!
Located on the edge of the continent, this St. Helena Island eatery is definitely one of a kind — and for more reasons than one. The panoramic views of the tidal marshes and even the Atlantic Ocean a little further away are only part of what makes Johnson Creek Tavern so unique.
This come-as-you-are unpretentious seafood restaurant dishes up a cozy, fun and casual atmosphere along with some of the best and freshest seafood around.
The Frogmore Stew is among the favorite menu items. So many other Lowcountry restaurants try to dress this out with extras, but Johnson Creek follows the same old traditional makings of this seafood favorite that began in - and was named for - the nearby Frogmore community.
No matter how you like your shrimp, you're sure to find it fresh and prepared just the way you expected. Boiled shrimp is my favorite.
Some people want it fried, and that's available too! And it's exactly as yummy as it looks!
Have your meal inside and enjoy the unusual decor that probably includes enough dollar bills taped to the walls to pay your mortgage for several months.
Or grab a cold beverage and take the party outside to enjoy the amazing views! Johnson Creek Tavern has a full bar with plenty of options to order from. And from their deck you can see the ocean.
The next time you're in or near Beaufort, make the extra effort to head toward the coast and check out this unique and casual restaurant perched on the edge of the coast.
For most South Carolina residents this restaurant is in an amazing and remote spot. Johnson Creek Tavern is located at 2141 Sea Island Pkwy., St Helena Island, SC 29920. They're open seven days a week from 11:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. and sometimes have live music. Get your fill of fresh seafood in this unassuming little down-home remote eatery in the Palmetto State.
