Called a hidden treasure of the Upstate, Landrum is a quiet little town that’s worth considering when you’re looking for a great place for a trip or weekend getaway. It’s got a charming downtown, great places to eat, such as Stax's Drake House Restaurant, and there’s one of the most charming bed and breakfasts in South Carolina that’s located on a huge, peaceful horse farm in this beautiful corner of the state.
Barking Fox Farm is tucked away in Landrum on Greenwood Road just inside the North Carolina border. Comprised of 43 acres, its ambiance has reminded guests through the years of an Old Virginia farm.
It's dog-friendly, and you'll also enjoy observing animals who live on the farm including horses, Scottish Highland cattle and calves, and hens. Other types of animals sometimes visit the farm as well, including wild turkeys, deer, and more.
Sit back on the porch and relax, while enjoying picturesque views that can take you a million miles away from the cares of life.
Every morning, you'll find milk and eggs in the refrigerator, as well as baked goods from an incredible local bakery, 10 North Trade Cafe and Bakery, which are made from scratch with all-natural quality ingredients. Baked in small batches to ensure freshness, there are options such as Sweet Potato Pecan, Orange Cranberry, Walnut Fig, Blueberry Banana, and Apple Loaves!
There are two cottages on the farm for guests to stay overnight, each named after one of the farm's horses. The Ladybug Cottage is named after an old, beloved Quarter Horse.
Antique furnishings throughout, including part of an antique picture frame collection and a Dutch baroque chandelier, give the space an old-world charm feeling.
The bedroom is furnished with bedroom furniture from the owner's grandmother and has a Simmons queen-size Beauty-rest mattress for a restful night's sleep. There's a romantic deck for enjoying sunsets and a view of the horses peacefully grazing.
The Laurel Cottage was named after the owner's youngest son's first horse. It, too, is tastefully decorated with antique furniture and part of an antique picture frame collection, as well as a Dutch baroque chandelier.
There's also a queen-size bed with a Simmons Beauty-rest mattress, and in the living room there's a Simmons Hide-a-Bed for an extra guest.
Both cottages have a full kitchen if you'd like to cook while you're here.
Relax in the evening outside the Laurel Cottage underneath the pergola in the swing or patio furniture.
