Few things in life can harken you back to your childhood quite like the smell of home cooking, a summer vacation spent at the beach, or a trip to the South Carolina State Fair. Now in its 151st year, the South Carolina State Fair has been going strong every year since 1869 - with the exception of the pandemic in 1918. It even took place last year during the pandemic, although that year it was modified to be a drive-through-only fair featuring your favorite fair foods. Well, this year, it's back 100% with the rides, the food, the exhibits, the entertainment, and more family fun than you can possibly pack into just one day or evening.
But not to worry. The fair actually lasts twelve consecutive days and spans two full weekends, making it easy to fit it into your schedule once, twice, or even more times if you just can't get enough.
The 2021 rendition of the South Carolina State Fair will feel much like every other year in recent history, except for 2020, of course.
Familiar rides will dot the landscape, calling your name to hop aboard for some thrills and excietment.
The roots of this long-running state fair are embedded in livestock.
Both livestock and agricultural competitions are in play with blue ribbons and bragging rights for those presenting the best of the best at the fair.
Kids and adults alike love visiting the animals entered into the fair's competition. And then... there's the annual pig races, which always inspire deep belly laughs in all who attend.
Over on the midway, you'll find more food than you could possibly eat, even if you attended the fair every single day for all twelve days.
And an endless supply of turkey legs, to boot!
