If there's one thing Rhode Island knows, it's seafood. It's hard to throw a stone without hitting a place to purchase shellfish and fillets, either ready to be cooked at home by you, or already perfectly prepared. As the Ocean State, we have unbeatable access to some incredible fresh seafood in Rhode Island, but we think this one spot in Narragansett might possibly have the freshest of the fresh.
Champlin's Seafood and their deck restaurant has been serving the hungry people of Narragansett and travelers alike since 1944.
Clearly they are doing something right because they have quite the loyal following.
If you are craving fresh seafood in Rhode Island, where better to go than a business that owns multiple docks!
Fresh clams, scallops, lobsters, and tuna come straight from Champlin's docks in Galilee to the market and restaurant.
The market is open year round, daily from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. and features a mind boggling array of delightful fresh seafood.
Choose from classics like chunky fillets or quahogs, or step out of the box a bit and try something like this creative octopus salad.
The deck restuarant opens the last Friday of March every year, and it's well worth the wait, Especially considering that's still earlier than many of the local clam shacks.
Eating on the deck provides lovely views of the surrounding water, and with a diverse and delightful menu, you can eat here so many times without repeating a meal.
Options available include large dinner plates like lobster or steamed mussels with sides. Or if you're craving some lighter fare you can grab a couple of fish tacos or a scallop roll. And there is so much more to try!
Champlin's seems like an awesome spot to enjoy a meal or pick up some seafood to prepare for yourself. The fish market is open daily from 9 a.m to 6 p.m, and the seafood deck will open up again the first Friday in March. Make sure to follow Champlin's Facebook page and check out their website for updates and specials!
