Without a doubt, Rhode Island has some of the best beaches in America. Some are perfect spots for splashing in the surf and others are sunbathing paradises. But if you are searching for an incredible beach walk, we have just the spot and you're going to love it.
Napatree Point is a long sandy peninsula found in the village of Watch Hill, Rhode Island. Its unspoiled beauty is a rarity.
Extending westward from Watch Hill, this narrow sandy beach extends 1 1/2 miles, creating a protected harbor. It is a wildlife preserve and public land that offers an incredible beach walk for those who visit.
When you arrive, you'll need to cross over the dunes to reach the beach. Stay on the fenced paths and enjoy the colorful beach roses blooming in season.
The view from the top of the dunes exhibits a mesmerizing panorama of the scenic walk you are about to take.
The sand is soft to the feet, so kick off your shoes and feel the sand between your toes. The sound of the surf is completely relaxing as you make your way up the coast. You may find some shells or even encounter a sea turtle on your journey.
At the very end of the peninsula, the landscape changes a bit and you will find large rocks interspersed with sand. The water views stretch for miles at this southernmost and westernmost point of the mainland.
It's hard to fathom that Napatree Point was a once heavily wooded area. The Great September Gale of 1815 destroyed the trees and left a gorgeous beach behind.
You'll also want to cross over the dunes to the harbor side of Napatree Point.
The harbor side also has a stretch of sand where you can stroll and enjoy the opposite side of the peninsula. View the moored boats in the bustling little harbor for a more active scenery.
You'll want to stay until the day is done, the sunsets here are absolutely breathtaking.
You can find Napatree Point on Fort Rd., Westerly, RI 02891.
Have you taken this incredible beach walk? What was your favorite part? Or is this something you are going to add to your bucket list?
