If you're a wine lover, you already know nothing beats drinking wine where it's born, especially if that place happens to be a beautiful vineyard. Greenvale Vineyards is a paradise for wine drinkers -- not only is it a serene, picturesque property, it's located right on the beautiful Sakonnet River.
Greenvale Vineyards is located on Aquidneck Island, in the small town of Portsmouth.
The family-run farm is now in its sixth generation of producing wine.
Although the family got into the wine industry in 1982, the farm has actually been around since 1863.
So when you visit, you'll be exploring a piece of local history. It's even registered on the National and State Registers of Historic Places.
The property is located right on the river, so the views are wonderful.
Guests are invited to come taste the award-winning wines and stroll the property.
The vineyard's 100% estate grown fruit has produced some seriously drinkable vino.
They produce both reds and whites here, specializing in Chardonnay and red blends.
The spacious tasting room is open daily year-round, although winter hours (January - March) are more limited.
A regular tasting costs $15, and you can even arrange a private tour for just $25 that includes seven wine tastes and a Greenvale logo glass.
If you love jazz, visit Greenvale Vineyards on Saturdays from 1 p.m. - 4 p.m. from May - December.
For just $20, you can sample seven wines while enjoying live jazz music -- and your logo glass is yours to keep.
Since this is such a huge, beautiful property, many a happy couple has chosen to get married here.
But even if you're not planning to walk down the aisle, this is an amazing place to visit. Where else can you sip wine by the water on a 156-year-old farm?
