A lot of people may not know it, but for a long time, a good chunk of the city of Providence was underwater! Much of the downtown area was a shipping port and slowly the water got pushed back to give us the beautiful city we have now. The Providence river is a relic of that past and walking along it is a much beloved activity for locals and travelers alike. But did you know you can take a boat down the river as well? It's a great way to take in the beauty of the city in a way that you might not normally and there are some great companies with all types of options for boat tours if you don't have a boat of your own to take. One that we particularly love is La Gondola.
These 40 minute trips (30 minutes during a waterfire lighting,) launch from One Citizens Plaza
All trips take you down the Providence in an authentic Venentian Gondola that will make you feel like you've traveled to Venice.
The rowers are experts on the city and can answer any questions you may have, they might even sing for you along the trip!
If the boat, the sights, and the guide aren't enough, these trips are also BYOB. La Gondola supplies glasses, an ice bucket, and an opener, so you can sip something yummy on your trip.
There are a multitude of packages available to make your trip special. There is the option to add a musician to your trip, a ghost themed tour, and of course, the immensely popular waterfire tour.
Yup, you heard that right. You can book your gondola tour during one of Providence's famous waterfires. What a lovely way to stay cozy on a chilly night!
It is even possible to get married on one of these beautiful boats if you so choose. La Gondola really cares about the experience they offer aboard their boats, and every tour option seems like such a blast!
