Pennsylvania boasts quite a few memorable caves. However, this road trip will only take you to six. You'll cover nearly 300 miles as you travel to each of these unique, breathtaking caves.
1. Crystal Cave – 963 Crystal Cave Road, Kutztown, PA 19530
Explore Crystal Cave, first discovered in 1871, a destination that has attracted countless Pennsylvanians and out-of-staters for decades. Your nearly hour-long underground tour of Crystal Cave includes a video of its history. Stroll through the cave with rock formations that look like the Giant's Tooth, the Indian Head, and the Natural Bridge.
Crystal Cave welcomes guests daily between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m. from March 1 through November 30 annually.
2. Indian Echo Caverns – 368 Middletown Road, Hummelstown, PA 17036
Dress comfortably for your underground exploration of Indian Echo Caverns, which maintains a steady temperature of 52 degrees Fahrenheit all year around. Meet at the gift shop for the 45 minute tour, led by a seasoned tour guide. Go gem mining. Have a picnic and meet the animals in the petting zoo after returnimg above ground.
Visit Indian Echo Caverns daily from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. all year around. Summer hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and run from Memorial Day to Labor Day.
3. Coral Caverns – 100 Cavern Street, Manns Choice, PA 15550
Next stop: Coral Caverns, a popular natural wonder for more than 80 years. The unique cave features fossils and coral remains that date back 400 million years. Prepare to spend anywhere from 35 to 45 minutes exploring Coral Caverns.
Plan your visit to Coral Caverns from May through September. The caverns are open Saturdays and Sundays from 10:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
4. Lincoln Caverns – 7703 William Penn Highway, Huntingdon, PA 16652
Enjoy two for the price of one when you visit Lincoln Caverns. Embark on an hour long tour of Lincoln Caverns and Whispers Rock, where you'll come face-to-face with stunning crystals and jaw dropping stalactites. Above ground, go gem mining, picnicking, and shopping at the gift store.
Venture to Lincoln Caverns, which opens daily at 9 a.m. Until June 30, the final tour of the day leaves at 5 p.m. From July 1 to Labor Day, the day's last tour leaves at 6 p.m.
5. Penn’s Cave – 222 Penns Cave Road, Centre Hall, PA 16828
Discover the sheer natural beauty of Penn's Cave - the United States' only all-water cave - by boat. The nearly 50 minute tour of the limestone cave is only the start of your adventure. Above ground, go mining for gems, get lost in the Miners Maze, or embark on a wildlife adventure.
Penn's Cave is open daily from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
6. Woodward Cave – Route 45 in Centre County, Woodward, PA 16882
Wear your most comfortable shoes for your nearly hour long journey underground at Woodward Cave, which features five distinct rooms, including the Hall of Statues, the Square Room, the Ballroom, the Upper Room, and the Tower of Babel.
Make your way to Woodward Cave daily through June 30 on Sundays and weekdays from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and on Saturdays from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Hours change beginning in July.
