Even if we can barely draw a stick figure, we all have a creative side. Sometimes, though, it remains hidden until inspiration strikes. Whether you don't know how to channel your creativity or you're searching for inspiration, you'll find it at Philadelphia's Magic Gardens, a one-of-a-kind art park in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. It's one of the quirkiest places in Pennsylvania, and you're sure to return again and again.
Philadelphia's Magic Gardens, tucked on South Street in Philadelphia, is the creative masterpiece of one man - Isaiah Zagar, an artist who moved to the city with his wife, Julia, in the 1960s.
From that moment on, he dedicated his artistic endeavors to "beautifying South Street." Together, he and Julia, along with other artists, transformed South Street into an artistic haven for artists and visitors.
The artist eventually set his sights on turning the vacant lots near his studio on South Street into artwork, too, creating mosaics from a variety of objects.
Unfortunately, the owner of those vacant lots came calling in 2004, demanding that the artwork be torn down, so he could sell the land. The community rallied around the Zagars, and Philadelphia's Magic Gardens was born.
Today, Philadelphia's Magic Gardens is comprised of an outdoor sculpture gallery and two indoor galleries.
A stroll through the sculpture garden promises to inspire; mosaics have been created with everything from old bicycles to colorful bottles.
Philadelphia's Magic Gardens hosts special events and workshops throughout the year.
